SERVICES
Based in San Francisco but operating globally, Hershenson Fine Art Consulting works with collectors, artists, institutions, and their fiduciaries. The firm offers discrete, individualized, and unconflicted services based on experience and informed judgement. In the last year, the firm has advised on transactions with an aggregate value in excess of USD 100 Million.
We assist clients throughout the collecting life cycle:
Building — Hershenson Fine Art Consulting introduces clients to a wide range of art and artists, and fosters participation in the global art market. The firm develops collection plans; provides counsel concerning auction bidding, negotiations with dealers, and ancillary costs; facilitates provenance research; and assists with export permits and shipping. We monitor offerings by major auction houses and dealers; and introduce clients to more diverse channels, including small domestic and foreign auction houses, private dealers, and direct collector dispositions.
Stewarding — Hershenson Fine Art Consulting manages collections with the goal of preserving and enhancing art asset value. The firm advises on conservation, storage, insurance, and collection documentation. We counsel clients on the sponsorship of research about their holdings, and the benefits and risks associated with museum loans.
Transitioning — Hershenson Fine Art Consulting helps clients arrive at the optimal solution for deaccessioning art holdings. The firm develops and implements inter-family transfer, donation, and sale strategies, whether for individual objects or entire collections. We negotiate with auction houses, dealers, and cultural institutions; offer advice on asset value and counsel on independent appraisals; assist in the use of art as collateral; and collaborate with lawyers, accountants and other professionals to achieve the best result for clients.
